2 or 3 tank dive on the fabulous southern reef!

There are many amazing dive sites on the Barrier reef less than 45 minutess by motor boat from Hopkins Village. We offer half or full day dive trips that take you on a Caribbean adventure with some true Belizean talent and seamanship.

This tour takes you on a short ride down Sittee river with stunning wildlife, jungle and mangroves on both sides along the banks of the river. After a 10 minute ride down the river you reach the ocean and you go skipping over the water with the wind in your hair through the first range of Cayes and onward to the barrier reef.

The tour goes to 2 or 3 different islands including Tobacco Caye, South Water Caye, Bread and Butter caye and many more.

For lunch the tour stops at a Caye where you can relax, explore,  chill out and snorkel from the beach whilst your meal is prepared.

Diving in the warm, calm, clear water inside the reef is spectacular. On any one outing you will see dozens and dozens of different varieties of fish, all in their Technicolor glory.

The coral reef is an amazing beautiful place and there is a lot to see!  Marine life swimming all around going about their business: protecting eggs, defending their territory, hunting food, looking for shelter, looking for mates, There are busier times too when fish are feeding or there is a change of guard when the day time critters go to sleep and the nocturnal creatures come out.  All this activity occurs amongst the beautiful coral in many different shapes and colors
Add in a couple passing rays, turtles, manatees and sharks, and now you have the Belize Barrier Reef. Literally anywhere you get in the water you will see the amazing world that makes the coral reef.
The boat that we take you out on is powered by an outboard motor with cushioned seating and a canopy to keep you in the shade.
  • Experience the second largest barrier reef in the world
  • UNESCO national heritage site
  • See manatees, dolphins, rays, turtles, barracudas and much more.
  • Expert guide and dive master on board to inform and answer questions
  • Full equipment included

Mayflower Nature Reserve. Transport only. Unguided

Jungle trekking waterfalls & Mayan ruins. Explore beautiful tropical jungle and swim in fresh water. Unguided

The Mayflower Bocawina National Park takes its name from one of the ancient Mayan sites recently found there. The reserve offers 7000 acres of beautiful Rainforest and jungle in a semi mountainous terrain. The area was made into a national Park in 2001. There are excavations going on at The Mayflower site along with two other sites in the park by the local Archeology Project.

Archeologists predict once the excavation is complete the Mayflower site will rank as one of the largest in Belize. Trail maps are available.  All three archeological sites are near the entrance and easily accessible on clear trails.

On the trail you can expect to see many types of birds including parrots and toucans. There are also howler monkeys, anteaters and many other species of wildlife evident in the park including the rarely seen jaguar. Of course the jaguar is a nocturnal creature, but hikers often see fresh footprints near the trails and an occasional jaguar spotting does happen.

Some of the hikes are steep and require hikers to grab onto ropes to climb to the top of the trails. The main trail through the reserve is called The Antelope Trail and the water falls on that trail are called the Antelope Falls where there are several places to swim and the water is pure and clear and the torrent crashing down the side of the mountain is incredibly refreshing

Finalist for “best small accommodation in Belize 2019”

We were honored to be among the finalists nominated for the “best small accommodation in Belize” by the BTB. The awards ceremony was last night. The Funky Dodo didn’t win, but it’s nice to be in consideration with places that have daily rates three or four (or more!) times our highest room rate. We congratulate all the winners in the various categories.
A huge “thank you” to the judges and the Belize Tourism Board for their regard and the honor of being chosen a finalist.
We thank all the rest of you–our amazing staff, our wonderful guests, and our fabulous friends in the village–for your continued support!

Room 2 completely redone! And we’re about to start on the dormitory….

We just redid room #2–it will still sleep 4, but we have added an en-suite bathroom! Check out pictures on our Facebook page @funkydodo. https://www.facebook.com/funkydodo/

For the next couple of weeks, our dorm bed availability will be severely restricted…we are going to completely rehab the current dormitory. Stay tuned for updates!
