COASTAL HIGHWAY WARNING!

If you are driving to the Funky Dodo from BZ city (or anywhere up north): do NOT take the coastal highway. Yes, that’s how Google maps will route you, but don’t do it. The road is not finished and is unpaved and in terrible condition. Unless you have a high-clearance 4WD, you stand a good chance of breaking down, and there are no towns and very limited cell reception.
Take the HUMMINGBIRD HIGHWAY. It’s beautiful, and paved all the way down. Just be careful approaching the very narrow bridges (you’ll know what I mean when you see them).

Different topic: the ATM in Hopkins is still not working most of the time. Stop off before you get here to stock up on cash (Belmopan or Dangriga–Scotia Bank usually works)

Room 2 completely redone! And we’re about to start on the dormitory….

We just redid room #2–it will still sleep 4, but we have added an en-suite bathroom! Check out pictures on our Facebook page @funkydodo. https://www.facebook.com/funkydodo/

For the next couple of weeks, our dorm bed availability will be severely restricted…we are going to completely rehab the current dormitory. Stay tuned for updates!

Plumbing!

Not that this will be so noticeable to guests…but the upgrades/rehabbing continue. We have now completely re-done the entire plumbing system. New pipes, new and better septic system.
Great water pressure in all showers and faucets…finally. Still no hot water…looking into a solar water heater, but those are very expensive, so it will be a while before we can do that, but it’s in the plan…
More to come!

help?

The price of sheets in Belize is stupid. As in expensive. Like US$40 for a twin set of mostly polyester sheets. (yuck–sleeping on plastic)

If you’re coming to the Funky Dodo, have just a little room in your pack, and would like to help us out with a small donation, please bring sheet sets. White, twin or full size. We’ll love you forever.

Thanks!
